California Condor Chicks Were Born In Los Angeles Zoo

The Los Angeles Zoo has reached a new milestone in bird conservation efforts with a record-setting season for the California condor, announcing the 17 California condor chicks were born this year.
According to the television station in Los Angeles, the milestone chick was born in June and is said to be thriving. Showing the Los Angeles Zoo's animal care team’s efforts and innovative practices. Ms. Legato, Los Angeles Zoo Curator of Birds stated, the condor team has raised the bar once again in the collaborative effort to save the US’ largest flying bird from extinction. Each new chick will become a candidate for release into the wild as part of the California Condor Recovery Program, a measure that further underscores the significance of this year’s success. As part of their initiative, the Los Angeles Zoo has been pioneering new techniques to boost the condor population. The California Condor Recovery Program has seen a significant partnership contribution from the Los Angeles Zoo. As of December 2023, there are 561 California condors in the world. 60% of them are living in the wild. Denise Verret, Los Angeles Zoo CEO remarked on the partnership's success. It is the cornerstone of the Zoo’s mission to save wildlife and an important example of a successful conservation partnership between zoos, government agencies, indigenous peoples, and private organizations.
