INTRODUCING THE BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK.........

介绍荒地公园

(I appreciate Mr. Glenn Nagel for providing the image of the Badlands National Park. Please let me know if it is against copyright.)

The rugged Badlands National Park in South Dakota is celebrated for its deep canyons, spires, and rich Oligocene epoch fossil layers. It is one of the largest protected mixed-grass prairies in America. Sunsets and sunrises bring the best out of this dramatic landscape! The Big Badlands Overlook is one of the best things to do in Badlands National Park because it’s arguably the best place in the park to catch sunrise!

The park's unique allure is defined by several spectacular features. This landscape exposes striking geology with horizontally banded geological layers. The rock formations erode rapidly about an inch a year, creating a constantly changing and surreal topography.

The Badlands contain one of the richest prehistoric fossils. Paleontologists and visitors can find preserved remains of ancient horses and rhinoceroses that roamed the area 35 million years ago. You can even observe paleontologists clean freshly discovered fossils in the interactive lab at the Ben Reifel Visitor Center.

The park protects a vital mixed-grass prairie. It acts as a refuge for bison, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, and active prairie ground squirrels. You can also see the incredibly rare and endangered ferret.

Because of its isolated location and absence of light pollution, the park is an officially certified Dark Sky Park. It offers unmatched stargazing and hosts ranger-led astronomy programs during the summer months.

The 39-mile Badlands Road features over a dozen panoramic overlooks, making it easy to enjoy the breathtaking vistas right from your vehicle.
