The Television Mountain is a famous antenna-covered peak and a recognizable local landmark located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It serves as a major transmission hub for the country's media. It stands as a symbol of the country's long history and social division. Afghanistan's television was disrupted by conflict in the 1990s. Now the Television Hill acts as the infrastructure hub underpinning the rebirth of Afghan broadcasting. However, in 2025, citing crime prevention, the fiber-optic network was shut down. It caused a communications blackout. Approximately 9,000 telecommunications base stations ceased operations. It affected nearly every sector of the economy. In a country with limited infrastructure, the shared fiber-optic lines used for broadcasting and telephone frequently suffer from service outages. About 9,350-kilometer fiber-optic network is crucial for connecting Afghanistan to the global community and lifting the nation out of poverty. Most of this infrastructure was built by the previous government with US support. The Television Mountain offers a breathtaking, panoramic vantage place of the surrounding zones and peaks. It is popularly nicknamed Television Mountain because It has primary broadcast transmitters for Kabul's television and radio networks. Reaching the summit is very arduous and challenging, typically requiring a rugged vehicle. It has become a popular stop for specialized tours that offer panoramic views of Kabul's vibrant areas and brick houses. From the top of Television Mountain, visitors can clearly gaze at other Kabul landmarks, including the gorge and the mountain range.
